PATTERNS
When is it?
October 17
2–7 PM
What is Patterns?
A learning retreat about six foundational movement patterns: push, pull, yield, release, reach, and grasp.
These patterns begin developing in infancy and continue to shape how we move through and interact with the world.
What will we explore?
We’ll look at each pattern physically—how it shows up in the body and in a movement practice.
Then we’ll look beyond the body: How do these same patterns show up in our relationships? In the way we respond to the world? And even in our spiritual lives?
What does eating an apple have to do with it?
A lot, actually.
We’ll use the simple process of eating an apple to explore all six patterns—and follow them from the physical to the relational to the spiritual.
Do I need a movement or yoga background?
No. Everything will be taught and explored together.
What will we actually do?
A combination of lecture, movement, hands-on exploration, and group conversation.
What’s the point?
Not to fix your patterns. To notice them.
The more patterns we can recognize, the more choices we have in how we respond.
Cost?
$200. Sliding scale available.
How many people?
15 maximum.
*All workshops will be held at Beach Life Boutique · 312 S. Catalina Ave., Suite E · Redondo Beach, complementary parking and AC
BODY AS STORY
Karma, Dharma & A More Compassionate Tomorrow
When is it?
October 24
2–7 PM
What is Body as Story?
A learning retreat about karma, dharma, and how the past shapes the conditions we live in now.
Wait—karma? Like what goes around comes around? and dharma, like, my purpose in life?
Yes. But probably not in the way you’ve heard them talked about.
We’ll look at karma as action and consequence—not cosmic reward and punishment. And dharma as the question of what we do with the conditions we’ve inherited.
Why does that matter?
Because karma and dharma offer a fascinating way to think about cause and effect, the ripple effects of our actions, and how we're all participating in a much bigger story than our own.
And what does the bottom of the ocean have to do with this?
We’ll use the way sediment accumulates on the ocean floor to make some very old philosophical ideas surprisingly tangible. It’ll make sense when you get here.
What will we actually do?
Lecture, movement, reflection, and brief group conversation.
Do I need to know anything about yoga philosophy?
No.
What are we ultimately asking?
Karma: What set all of this in motion?
Dharma: What is ours to do now?
Cost?
$200
How many people?
15 maximum.
